Japan was originally ruled by the Emperor and the aristocrats, but after the samurai of the Minamoto and Taira clans clashed and war erupted at the end of the Heian period, the samurai took over Japan. For nearly 700 years after that, the history of Japan revolved around the samurai. The Samurai Museum aims to showcase the history of samurai and their fighting spirit to both Japanese and foreign tourists.
