Nijo-jo Castle
Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first general of Tokugawa, built Nijo castle in 1603 for protecting Kyoto Imperial Palace and as the accommodation while proceeding to the capital. Stone walls were built with about 500 meters from east to west, 400 meters from north to south, and moats were dug around. As a Japanese National Treasure, the corridor of Ninomaru Goten was designed to make sounds while walking on it. Nearby, there is the Kyoto Imperial Palace, which was the Imperial Palace for 500 years before the capital was moved to Tokyo.
