Wakaura Tenmangu worships Sugawaramichizane the God of Learning, it is said to be one of the Japanese Sankancho along with Dazaifu Tenmangu and Kitano Tenmangu. During the exam season, this Tenmangu crowds with people praying for success in their educaiton. The main building has a hip and gable roof structure, specifically a plover gable structure. (it is a certified national important cultural property). The inside and outside is decorated with brilliant colours and murals painted by the painters from Tosa school and Kano school.
